Super Bowl LVII Highlights
The clash of the number one seeds provided everything the neutral fan might have hoped for on Sunday afternoon as the Chiefs left Glendale, Arizona, victorious at Superbowl LVII. All the Pa sportsbook promos were heavily focused on this monumental event, and as always, we were not let down.
Many bonuses and promotions helped to make the Super Bowl more entertaining, and we hope you picked up some winners along the way. Here we give a detailed summary of how the game panned out for the Eagles.
Eagles Soar into Half Time
With next to nothing by way of notable injuries on the day of the game, we were promised the best of both teams. The Eagles quickly demonstrated that they had arrived with winning as the only possible outcome.
Early drives in the first quarter saw both teams register a touchdown, including one of three for stud QB Jalen Hurts. But it was in the second that Philadelphia once again upped the ante.
The first of 17 second-quarter points came from a perfectly executed throw from Hurts for 45 yards and a touchdown. This came after Brown demonstrated his ability to generate separation from two of the helpless Chiefs’ secondary.
Jalen Hurts Makes Amends
But Hurts was responsible for coughing the ball up to Nick Bolton for a defensive TD for the Chiefs and leveling the scores. Hurts had been perfect on the ground up to this point and would be for the rest of the game. Yet this error midway through the second half would prove costly as the clock ran down later in the game.
He was quick to atone for his error, though, rushing from four yards untouched into the Chief’s endzone for his second rushing of the night. The half was finished with a Jake Elliot Field Goal to give the Eagles a ten-point lead at the break.
Not long before Elliot’s half-ending kick came another moment of real significance. The Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, star of the NFL, left the field grimacing after he was brought down on the run and left clutching his ankle.
Rihanna Steps in to Give Mahomes a Break
Rihanna’s halftime show offered Mahomes the break he needed to get bandaged up and back out there, but he moved gingerly on his return to the field. The Eagles had dominated the Chiefs as far as time of possession was concerned. Mahomes only had the ball for just over eight minutes to the Eagles’ almost 22 in the first half.
But there is one thing this Chiefs side and Mahomes had demonstrated time and time again over the season. That being, they only needed one opportunity to make things happen.
Questions about whether this would change the Chiefs’ offensive playbook were quickly answered. Big plays came from Kelce through the air and himself on the ground. He set up a second and short rushing touchdown for the 7th-round rookie tailback Pacheco to make it 24-21.
Chiefs Start to Make The Final Push
The Eagles’ response felt more labored than they had looked in the first half. Back-to-back drives ended with a Jake Elliot field goal after a penalty for delay of the game slowed Philly’s progress. But as the third quarter came to a close, they led by six points.
Notably, the Eagles’ pass rush had struggled to get anything going until this point, and it would remain that way for much of the night. Mahomes’ mobility was proving a challenge, but the threat from the edge that had been so integral to victories all season just didn’t seem to come. The Chief’s early 4th quarter touchdown seemed all too easy as runs from Pacheco broke free on multiple occasions. Former Giant Kadarius Toney was able to get past to make it 28-27.
In opposing fashion, the Chiefs D stepped up a level as the fourth quarter set in. The pressure on Jalen Hurts limited his ability to scramble for the yards we had seen him gain so easily in the first half, forcing a punt in response to the Chiefs’ touchdown.
It was once again Kadarious Toney proving the thorn in the side of Sirianni’s men, resulting in a 1st and goal, and the game appeared to have fully turned on its head.
The Eagles’ QB Sneak on the Big Stage
A Chiefs touchdown felt inevitable at this point, and Mahomes to Moore sealed it. Philly’s response was clinical. Hurts threw deep to Devonta Smith, which left Hurts to pick up his third rushing touchdown and fourth overall with five minutes left on the clock.
The QB sneak that had proved impossible to stop all season had proven as successful as it had all season.
With five to go, this was now on Andy Reid and co to demonstrate their ability in clock management. It seemed a skill they had yet to excel in years past. Mahomes and Pacheco made significant enough ground to set up a good field position for Harrison Butker. And what felt like a harsh holding call on James Bradberry gifted the Chiefs more time to burn away.
After kneeling through a couple of downs, Butker made no mistake with the chip shot field goal. Leaving the Eagles eight seconds on the clock and one, maybe two shots at making some progress downfield. Ultimately the challenge was too great, and the Chiefs and Mahomes secured their second Super Bowl in five years.
Much More to Come from the Eagles
The Eagles were dominant for the first half, and with Mahomes going down injured, it looked as though the game might have been all but written off at halftime. But the fight in this Chiefs team is evident. Mahomes’ desire and ability to play through injury is a testament to his capability as a leader in this impressive Chiefs offense.
With good options on early draft picks in 2023 and contract situations looking favorable in Philadelphia, this won’t be the last time we see the Eagles shine in the postseason. Jalen Hurts gave a performance that might have won MVP in most other years. However, he was matched up with the best QB in the game now that the GOAT Brady has officially retired.
The Philadelphia Eagles will soar again, and there will be more Pa sportsbook promos on the Super Bowl next year; that much we all know to be true.
